The power of Open-Source
Open-source network analytics tools provide a wealth of free functionality, but they can also be difficult to use and manage and can be problematic when it comes to dealing with extremely large volumes of traffic.
Our Probe Architecture is purpose built to support key open-source network monitoring and management tools such as:
ntop
We are proud to be recognised by ntop as one of only a few accredited ntop technology partners.
ntop is an open-source network monitoring application that provides a wide range of features and functionality that let you gain a deeper understanding of your network performance and behaviour.
Our Probe Architectureis capable of generating a netflow record for every single packet, which makes it hugely powerful for powering ntop.
ntop enables you to:
- Sort network traffic according to many criteria - such as protocol
- Display traffic statistics
- Record to disk in RRD format for long-term trend analysis
- Identify key information such as the host Operating System or email addresses of users
- Analyse IP traffic and sort it according to the source/destination
Wireshark
Wireshark (formerly known as Ethereal) has become the defacto, open-source standard for protocol analysis. It provides low-level packet filtering and analytical capability. Trace files captured from your network can be opened in Wireshark and analysed right down to individual packet level.
Wireshark's rich set of filters lets you look at live traffic or traffic in captured trace files in numerous different ways. For instance you can isolate just packets relating to DNS to get a detailed understanding of the DNS resolution traffic happening on your network.
