Multi-application,
multi-Probe by design

Our Operating System for monitoring (OSm) is designed from the ground up to enable multiple-applications across multiple Probes.

Endace Operating System for Monitoring (OSm)

Endace's OSm is purpose built to run on our Series 3000 and 7000 Probes and is the primary enabler of our 5-layer probe architecture which facilitates the core functionality of your Probe. It also provides the glue that links your Probes together to form a network-wide capture fabric.

Unlike competitor offerings, OSm is designed from the ground up to run multiple different applications simultaneously. OSm's Virtual Machine (VM) capability enables your Probes to run any Compatible Applications

In addition to providing the foundation for our applications, OSm enables:

  • Powerful command and control capability for individual Probes
  • Simple management for complex "fabric" deployments
  • Easy integration with your existing network applications

Endace Open Development Environment

The Endace Open Development Environment (Endace ODE) is a bare-metal Operating System designed for developers building applications that will be deployed on OSm at a future date.

Endace ODE doesn’t support any of the rich functionality of the Endace OSm, but is the perfect development environment for application developers.

A key feature of ODE is Capture Replay - the ability to capture 100% of your network traffic and replay it on your network for load and application performance testing. If you need to know your network and applications will perform at 10Gb/s, this tool will give you the ability to know for sure – using "real-world" traffic captured off your own network.

Probe Achitecture

Multi-Application Environment

Traditionally high-performance necessitated dedicated single-function appliances running a single application - which resulted in multiple appliances taking up valuable rackspace, each of which relied on its own proprietary packet capture data source, and provided little or no integration with other appliances.

Endace OSm's Vm capability enables multiple applications to run on a single platform simultaneously. Each application runs in its own Virtual Machine, and shares access to the 100% packet capture capability delivered by Endace's Probe architecture

This frees organisations to choose best-of-breed applications for their specific requirements confident in the knowledge that they all share a single, authoritative and 100% accurate source of network traffic.

Our Application Station provides more detailed information about running applications on OSm-enabled Probes

Powerful command and control for Endace Probes

OSm is designed to give you the highest level of control over your Probes. Through the Probe's 'Management Console' you can see:

  • Health Status and Reporting - In depth health, status and reporting capability on the links being monitored and the performance of individual Probes all accessible via the purpose built web interface
  • Configuration & Session Management - full remote management and control of probe configuration from either a web-client, command-line interface or XML interface enabling any data source to be connected to any application quickly and efficiently.

Simple management for complex deployments

Networks consisting of many segments, multiple interfaces and speeds typically require multiple Probes to be deployed in what we call a 'fabric'.

For multi-probe deployments we provide a fabric manager (also known as our Central Management Server or CMS) which runs on its own dedicated server and provides the ultimate command-and-control functionality for managing and controlling large scale probe deployments, it allows you to:

  • Simultaneously manage multiple Probes: manage complex configuration changes with ease across multiple Probes
  • View and control applications: get instant visibility of which applications are running on which Probes across your fabric

Integration with your existing applications

With full support for Soap/XML, SNMP, Syslog, and other open standards, OSm makes it easy to capture your network traffic in real time and deliver it to the applications that need it - giving you the confidence that all of your applications really do have the power to see all.

Netflow

OSm also enables you to generate netflow records on every single packet captured and forward them to the application(s) of your choosing - Open Source, proprietary or commercial.
