Endace Chief Technical Officer Talks About The Future of Open Source Intrusion Detection Systems
Stuart Wilson to present at 6th Annual GFIRST National Conference
Endace (LSE: EDA), world leaders in high-speed internet security, today announced that Chief Technology Officer Stuart Wilson will present at the 6th Annual GFIRST National Conference.
Wilson’s talk, “Why the world needs a new open source IDS engine” will be given on Thursday, August 19 at 3:45 p.m. central time at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country in San Antonio, Texas. Wilson will outline what he believes are the most important features of any system designed to monitor and protect critical infrastructure against cyber attack.
“Open source IDS engines, such as SNORT, are vital elements in today’s fight against cyber attack, but cyber security is an arms race and the market needs to innovate to keep up. It’s proven that the richest innovation is driven through competition, which is why it’s vital that the market has a choice of IDS engine.”
“Like the revolution in the router industry 10 years ago, the IDS industry needs to respond to higher data rates, intolerance to packet loss and threat migration at the application layer. This needs to happen through the introduction of hardware based high-performance platforms, and new IDS engine features such as those being introduced in the OISF Suricata engine. Suricata is the DHS-backed, open source response to the need for ‘next generation’ alternative to what already exists today. It incorporates a wide range of features that will help organizations identify a broader range of cyber attack in high-speed networks.”
The session will be part of the Policy and Government track which provides attendees with an understanding of national-level cyber security policy and initiatives, as well as DHS-specific initiatives. In addition, it provides the opportunity for US-CERT federal, state and local partners to discuss their activities and efforts to manage cyber risk.
